Why does Immigration occur? A theoretical synthesis by Douglas S. Massey
"Over three million centuries, nearly ten million Africans were imported into the Americas, and together with European colonists, they radically transformed its social and demographic composition".
Douglas S. Massey is saying that because of the forceful importations of slaves from west Africa to the Americas to work on plantations, fields, farms, domestic and construction. They transformed the areas they were in. There was very large percent or number of Africans in areas such as Maryland, Virginia, south Carolina, brazil, Haiti etc.
For me this means that Africans changed the demographic and social composition of areas they migrated to. wherever they settled the brought their culture and beliefs there also. Africans have contributed to the Americas in so many ways economically, socially and politically. Today African culture are still retained in many parts of the Americas including United States and the Caribbean and Africans are still contributing to this day.
